Abstract

This study aims to analyze household consumption management strategies among housewives in dealing with the scarcity of subsidized Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in East Lombok Regency and to examine these strategies from the perspective of Islamic consumption principles. This research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings indicate that LPG scarcity occurring from March to May 2026 was driven by structural distribution constraints that caused an imbalance between supply and demand. This situation led to significant changes in household consumption behavior, including panic buying, early purchasing, and limited stockpiling of LPG. Households also adopted adaptive strategies such as fuel substitution, consumption reduction, and precautionary purchasing. However, these responses contributed to price increases and intensified social pressure in accessing subsidized LPG. The study concludes that Islamic consumption principles, particularly maslahah and wasathiyah, function as normative guidelines in regulating household consumption behavior during scarcity conditions. These principles help promote balanced and responsible consumption practices in crises.
